Every family has its own unique set of circumstances. While there are state guidelines that are almost always used to determine child support, there are also factors that affect how much is paid. These factors include:

  • Your child’s specific educational needs
  • Each parent’s financial status, work history, education and earning capability
  • Your custody arrangement

Your parenting plan will impact the amount of child support that is required. For example, if your child spends the majority of the time with the other parent and parent incomes are similar, the parent who spends significantly less time with the child will likely pay child support. A child with special needs can also create a difference in the amount of support that is required.

WHAT DOES ‘SHARED PARENTING’ MEAN?

If your child spends at least two overnights a week with you or more than 104 overnights per year, you can create a plan that more accurately addresses your child’s financial needs.
