HOMECRIMINAL LAW – EXPUNGEMENT

HELPING YOU SEAL YOUR RECORD AND START FRESH

Having arrests, charges or convictions on your criminal record can permanently impede your future. You stand to lose job opportunities, housing options, personal relationships and more due to some unfortunate circumstances in your past. If you have a record and are interested in expungement – or, sealing it from public view – you should work with us at Law Offices Of Michael P. McGuire LLC.

We have a unique perspective that involves combining criminal law and family law. Our Monmouth County team has seen firsthand how expungement can make a world of difference for you and your family. We look forward to trying to help you expunge your record and move forward in life.

EXPUNGEMENT IN NEW JERSEY: WHAT TO KNOW

Expungement means that members of the public, employers, creditors and schools cannot see your criminal record, though law enforcement officials and court officials still can. New Jersey offers five broad categories for expungement:

  • Juvenile delinquency offenses within five years from completion of supervision
  • Arrests not resulting in conviction within six months from the date of arrest
  • Records of young drug offenders within one year from completion of supervision
  • Disorderly persons offenses within five years from completion of supervision
  • Indictable criminal offenses within 10 years from completion of supervision

Once the court expunges your eligible offenses, you can tell employers and others that you have never been convicted or arrested for those crimes.

WHY HIRE AN ATTORNEY?

Although you have the right to handle expungement on your own, hiring a criminal defense lawyer can ensure that the process happens as quickly as possible with no errors. Attorney Michael P. McGuire, who is a former New York City Police Officer, understands the nature of criminal offenses, how they impact your life and which ones you can expunge. Having handled many successful expungements, he knows exactly which steps to take and how to put you on a better path.
